Pregnancy Test Instructions and FAQ for the New Clearblue PLUS Pregnancy Test

Clearblue recommends that you test from the day your period is due. However, Clearblue PLUS Pregnancy Test can be used up to 4 days before your period is due.

If you test before your period is due and get a ’Not Pregnant’ result, there is still a chance that you may be pregnant but that your hormone level is still not high enough for the test to detect.

If you test again in 3 days time and get another ’Not Pregnant’ result and you still haven’t had your period, we recommend you see your doctor.

In clinical testing with early pregnancy samples Clearblue PLUS Pregnancy Test gave the following results: 56% of women received a ’Pregnant’ result 4 days early, 88% of women 3 days early, 97% of women two days early and 98% of women 1 day early.

When you become pregnant your body starts to produce the pregnancy hormone, human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG). The amount of hCG in your body doubles approximately every 2 to 3 days, and reaches a maximum at around 7 to 12 weeks into the pregnancy. It stays at a higher than normal level for the rest of the pregnancy, and for up to 3 weeks after giving birth. This means that hCG an ideal urinary marker for quickly and accurately assessing whether a woman is pregnant or not.

The Clearblue PLUS Pregnancy Test works by detecting the pregnancy hormone in your urine and is over 99% accurate when used from the day your period is due. You can use it up to 4 days before your period is due but if you get a ’Not Pregnant’ result, you should test again when your period is due. The levels of pregnancy hormone in your urine may not be high enough to be detected yet.

The Color Change Tip and the Control Window give you extra reassurance by showing you that the test is working.

The result window will give you a clear (+) result if you’re pregnant and a clear (–) result if you are not pregnant.

Please note, these are abbreviated instructions. Always read the in–pack leaflet before carrying out a test.

When you’re ready to use your NEW Clearblue PLUS Pregnancy Test, simply remove the one–piece Test Stick from its individual foil wrapper and take off the cap.

You can test directly in your urine stream, or in a sample of your urine collected in a clean, dry container. Hold the Color Change Tip pointing downwards either in your urine stream, or in your collected urine sample, for 5 seconds only.

The Color Change Tip will quickly turn pink, showing that urine is being absorbed, but it’s important to continue to hold it in the urine for the full 5 seconds.

Keep the Color Change Tip pointing downwards or lay the Test Stick flat until the line has appeared in the Control Window. You can read your result after 3 minutes.

If you’re testing from the day your period is due, you can test at any time of the day. If testing early, you should use the first urine of the day. You should avoid drinking excessive amounts of fluids before testing.

The Clearblue PLUS Pregnancy Test has a sample indicator and a control window to give you extra reassurance.

The Color Change Tip will quickly turn pink showing that urine is being absorbed. Within 3 minutes of taking the test a blue line appears in the Control Window to show that the test has worked properly.

If no blue line appears in the Control Window within 10 minutes, then the test has not worked. This may be because

• too much or too little urine was applied (remember, 5 seconds only), or
• the Color Change Tip was not kept pointing downwards, or
• the Test Stick was not laid flat after urine was applied.

A blue line will appear in the Control Window within 3 minutes to show that the test has worked. Read your result after 3 minutes.

• If there is a ’–’ in the Result Window when the line in the Control Window appears, your result is ’Not Pregnant’.
• If there is a ’+’ in the Result Window when the line in the Control Window appears, your result is ’Pregnant’.

It does not matter if one of the lines that make up the ’+’ symbol is lighter or darker than the other; the result is ’Pregnant’.

The appearance of the ’+’ symbol in the Result Window may vary, however, the lines that make up the ’+’ symbol and the line in the Control Window should be of a similar width.

If you are still unsure of your result, you should wait at least 3 days before testing again, taking care to follow the instructions.

Clearblue is over 99% accurate when used from the day your period is due.

If you have a ’Pregnant’ result, it is possible that you later find that you are not pregnant due to natural loss which can occur in the early stages.

If you have had a termination or a miscarriage within the last 9 weeks, the levels of hCG in your body could give you a false ’Pregnant’ result. If you have taken fertility medications that contain hCG within the last 14 days, those can also give you a false ’Pregnant’ result.

If you are taking any medication, it’s advisable to check the instructions or discuss it with your doctor. If your result was ’Pregnant’ and you have any bleeding, we recommend you visit your doctor.
