Clearblue® Pregnancy Tests

Pregnancy Tests

Clearblue® offers a range of home pregnancy tests, all of which detect the clinically proven urinary pregnancy marker – human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) to provide accurate and trusted results in early pregnancy testing.

How hCG is used to detect pregnancy

The hormone hCG is produced in the earliest stages of pregnancy. During early pregnancy it plays a role in survival of the corpus luteum1 and has a significant role in the implantation of the blastocyst and protection of the embryo against immune attack at the fetal/maternal boundary. The pregnancy hormone is initially produced by the embryo and therefore acts as a marker for its presence.2

Levels of hCG rise rapidly and predictably in the earliest days of pregnancy3 and it usually first appears in urine 8-10 days (range 6-12 days) following the estimated day of conception when using the most sensitive laboratory assays.4 The levels of hCG in early pregnancy have also been found to be highly similar between women.4 This makes hCG an ideal urinary marker for quickly and accurately assessing whether a woman is pregnant or not.

Some Clearblue® Pregnancy Tests can be used up to 6 days before the missed period

Published literature shows that hCG levels reach at least 50 milli-International Units per millilitre (mIU/ml) on the day a pregnant woman's period is expected.5-7 Clearblue® Early Digital, and Clearblue® Early Detection Pregnancy Tests can detect pregnancy from up to 6 days before the missed period.8,9 If a Clearblue® Pregnancy Test is used on the day of the expected period, it is more than 99% accurate.10 The graph below shows a typical rise in urinary hCG from the first detection of pregnancy.

Not all pregnant women who test before the day their period is due will obtain a "Pregnant" result. This is because urinary hCG levels may not yet be above the threshold for the test.

All Clearblue® Pregnancy Tests are rigorously tested using early pregnancy urine samples from women whose luteinizing hormone (LH) surge day is known and from which the day the period is due can be reliably estimated.7 Using these samples it is possible to assess the proportion of pregnant women expected to have sufficient hCG levels in their urine sample to generate a "Pregnant" result, on each day with respect to the day of expected period. If women choose to test early with Clearblue® Pregnancy Tests, the likelihood of detecting pregnancy before the day the period is due is clearly displayed on the product packaging. Clearblue® advises any woman who tests and gets a ‘Not Pregnant’ result, but still suspects pregnancy, to test again on the day she expects her period, if she tested early, or in a further 3 days if her period is overdue.

Clearblue® tests are over 99% accurate from the day of the expected period10

At Clearblue® we believe that consumers need a result they can be confident in and act on, and therefore we provide pregnancy test products that deliver over 99% accuracy from the day of the expected period.10

Digital results for greater accuracy in consumers’ hands

The Clearblue® Early Digital Pregnancy Test is our most sensitive digital pregnancy test and can detect pregnancy up to 6 days before the missed period.8 It gives unmistakably clear ‘Pregnant’ or ‘Not Pregnant’ results in words eliminating the human error that can occur when reading traditional line tests.11

The Clearblue® Early Digital Pregnancy Test has an extra wide tip for easy sampling and is the first and only test with a unique stop light. It also features the following key benefits:

  • Over 99% accurate from the day of the expected period10
  • Unmistakably clear results 6 days sooner8
  • Highly sensitive detection of hCG (10mIU/ml)
  • SmartGuard™ technology that combines:
    • Extra wide tip for easy sampling
    • Unique stop light that tells the user when enough urine is sampled
    • Floodguard™ technology to help reduce usage error12
    • Smart Coundown to result
    • Results in words

Visual signs give consumers confidence

The Clearblue® Early Detection Pregnancy Test is a highly sensitive pregnancy test (10mIU/mL) that provides early detection of hCG and can be used 6 days before the missed period, which is 5 days before the expected period.9

Clearblue® Early Detection Pregnancy Test is the first Clearblue® pregnancy test with DualSenseTM Technology, a unique FSH-modulated hCG scavenger system. This test may help prevent false positive results in the very small number of non-pregnant women who may have low levels of hCG in their urine.

The Clearblue® Early Detection Pregnancy Test features the following benefits:

  • Over 99% accurate from the day of the expected period.10
  • Results 6 days sooner9
  • Extra wide tip for easy sampling
  • DualSenseTM Technology, which may help prevent false positive results in the very small number of non-pregnant women who may have low levels of hCG in their urine

The Clearblue® Rapid Detection Pregnancy Test was the first pregnancy test to win the Red Dot Design Award.

The Clearblue® Rapid Detection Pregnancy Test is easy to use and gives results 5 days sooner.13 Some additional important benefits are:

  • It provides an easy-to-read pregnant (+) result from 1 minute when used from the day of missed period. The user should wait 3 minutes to confirm a not pregnant (-) result or if testing early.
  • It is over 99% accurate from the day of the expected period10
  • It has an ergonomic handle, designed to make the Clearblue® Rapid Detection Pregnancy Test easy to use
  • Its color change tip helps women to know urine is being absorbed
  • Its integrated Floodguard™ Technology helps make it easy for women to test correctly12
