I vividly recall the day over 13 years ago when I insisted my husband eat lunch at our favorite Chinese restaurant. I quickly skirted into the dark and small restroom with my pregnancy test
. It felt like an eternity waiting for the results. When I dashed out of the restroom everyone in the restaurant just new - our first child was going to be born!
I think our bodies prepare us for the new baby in so many ways. One way is by our bladders waking us up every 2 hours thru the night to go to the bathroom during the 3rd trimester. This is preparing us for the every 2 hour feedings we will soon be enjoying with a newborn. The best part of the whole having to go to the bathroom 75 times a night is that most the time you only go like 2 drops even though you feel like you are going to explode. It only takes like an hour to get sort of comfortable when you go to bed stuffing pillows where you need them and deciding which side is going to be best... so right after you finally fall asleep you think you have to pee and you lay there putting it off as long as you can until you have no choice. So now you are rolling around and trying to get up out of bed doing every move on a 1..2...3.. count and you drag your aching, tired, swollen body into the bathroom and NOTHING! SO you drag back to bed and start the whole process over again. This happens all night long. :) Although it is annoying and bothersome during that last stretch of pregnancy
it is amazing how fast you forget about it after the baby comes. When you are feeding your newborn at 3:45AM you don't seem to care or remember that you hate getting up at 3:45AM. All you seem to notice is that your baby looks so perfect to you and you can amazingly stay up all night just staring at her/him and watching all of their little movements and enjoy the time you get to hold and snuggle them because that stage doesn't last long at all.
Another memory is how comforting the sound of your babies heart beat is. Every time you hear the heart beat it is the most calming most wonderful feeling. They could hook me up to the monitor all day and I wouldn't care. I love that sound. Tom and I were just talking about this the other day. When you are pregnant it is comforting because even though you have worries about the pregnancy and everything you still know your baby is right there in your tummy and protected. Once they are born everything changes. You now have worries about things you have never even imagined. So even though pregnancy can be really tough on some and great on others it is comforting knowing your baby is safe with you and hearing that heart beat just confirms your baby is great.
A funny feeling during pregnancy and it has made me laugh with all 3 of our pregnancies is when the baby gets the hick-ups. Its is a constant bubbly/fluttering feeling and it sometimes tickles. It is one of those pregnancy enjoyments you find yourself missing when it is all over. This is right up there with watching your tummy while you are laying down or taking a bath. When the baby starts moving all over you can watch your tummy move like waves. It is the craziest thing at first and eventually you can't help but watch your tummy when ever you get a chance and laugh at how your stomach looks as the little gymnast inside is moving all over the place.Carolelynn
